unit 8 Proposal:

Section 1 –Rationale: This section provides an opportunity to reflect on, review and summarise your
progress and achievements through the first seven units. It also offers a chance for you to take stock of the knowledge, skills and understanding you have acquired, what you know now, compared with what you knew and could do before you started the course, and how this has influenced your choice of pathway and your project proposal.
  • At this point of the course, I’ve adapted from my strengths and improvements. About a year ago I had set out targets for myself which would ultimately help me progress and develop into a better actress. Besides, looking back from it till now, I’ve really grown out of my habits such as becoming confident in my own abilities along with accepting new challenges when approaching new script works. I’ve worked on gaining new knowledge and techniques from drama practitioners like Konstantin Stanislavski. Stanislavski’s methods allowed me to think depth of the characterisation of my role by applying skills such as subtext, objective and emotional memory etc. Somehow out of the practitioners that exists like Augusto Boal, Brecht or Antonin Artaud I mainly used Stanislavski’s one. For instance, I’ve applied actions for my role in King Oedipus and worked more on the subtext and emotional memory for Shakespeare.

Another part which I enjoyed this year was having the opportunity to work with industry professionals and companies such as Papa tango and Broken-hearted Youth Theatre and I learned several skills such as devising and directing a play. I think after working more with theatre companies I have definitely taken more of an interest in ancient and modern theatre. It was also interesting for me to experience devising a contemporary version of the Shakespearian play Macbeth. I really enjoyed working with others in a group and exchanging ideas.

To some degree, what I would be looking forward for next year is by putting more skills in my acting and seeing myself evolve from the learning as well as with portraying my experience from the year into my final production. Also, I’m interested in working/approaching on a different form of theatre and acting maybe something like Commedia dell'arte, melodrama or psychical theatre because throughout these units I’ve mainly worked on naturalism.

Section 2 –Project concept: This section provides an opportunity for you to clearly explain the concept and aims of your project. This should include what you anticipate producing, the research and ideas that will support its development and the levels and types of resources that you will need to complete and present your project realisation within the allocated timescale. You should include the names of anyone you will be collaborating with and/or those who will perform in your piece.

Section 3 --Evaluation: This section provides an opportunity for you to explain how you will reflect on and self--evaluate your work, as both an on-going activity and at the conclusion of the project. You should describe how you intend to record your decision--making and how you will document developments as the project progresses. This evaluation should reference your stated aims and be reflective and analytical rather than a description of actions completed.
  • Personally, I felt as if this was my worst performance ever and it was out of place. I am very disappointed within myself because I was losing focus and determination when working on this production with the group. Few of the individuals they didn’t seem to co-operate with my needs and expectations when creating this production as they didn’t put in as much effort as I wanted them to. This made me loose ambition which resulted in me not performing to my best of ability. I was expecting myself to progress by each unit, but I let my self down  tremendously by becoming weak and letting my working environment affect me. For future references, I won’t let this factor affect me the same way it did and I will become more mature by becoming more stricter with my peers but in a sensible and reasonable way.

Proposed research sources and bibliography:(Harvard format) Record your intended research sources, both primary (from your own first-hand experience e.g practical studio research) and secondary (from other sources), in this section. Sources of research should be as wide as possible
and may include: libraries, museums and galleries, books, film, magazines, TV, radio programmes, websites etc.Where appropriate you should use the Harvard system of referencing. The bibliography should be continuously updated as the project progresses.
