Unit 8: Colaborating Performance Project

Unit 8: Love and Information

This is the last unit of the course! and I will be participating at an end of year show called 'Love and Information' by Caryl Churchill. As a class, we will be adapting scenes from the play and we will be turning it into our own form of style by using our initial creative visual interpretations which will be used into directing this play as a whole. This unit will demonstrate and express the progress of my first year at this course highlighting my strengths and weaknesses from the very beginning to the end. Besides, I will be developing on my previous term work as I will reflect on them by setting a variety of new targets along with directing myself into working in a disciplined and focused manner by improving my attendance, being open-minded and gaining more confidence, etc. This will result in me putting a performance for an outside audience, this potentially leads me to have the ability to contribute my dedication for my performing role. I will learn how to deal with distractions by preparing my self ahead for each lesson, changing my mindset because instead of being reserved at all times, I should take risks by accepting challenges in order for me to go out of my comfort zone.

Research& Ideas:

For this Unit, I’m working with my group on a play called ‘Love and Information’ by Caryl Churchill. This play is a series of scenes split up into seven sections each consisting a number of scenes that range from less than a minute in length to a few minutes long. The seven sections of the play are chronologically placed in a disordered form as the scenes that follow after on another don’t have any connection at all. What I like about this play is that as the director we get to use our power and creativity to turn the random section of the scenes into our own style and build a distinctive storyline from it, which would be completely transformed into a different version from the actual playwright. Within the play there are over 100 characters, however, none of the characters are named nor have a gender so they can be double cast. The play mainly focuses on addressing contemporary themes like knowledge, technology, communication, philosophy, religion and the capacity for love.

About Caryl Churchill...

Caryl Churchill was born in London, England on September 3rd, 1938. She is a British playwright known for dramatising the abuses of power, for her use of non-naturalistic techniques, and for her exploration of sexual politics and feminist themes. Churchill attended the Trafalgar School in Montreal. She returned to England at 18 years old, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Language and Literature at Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford. During her career, she has written over 45 plays and has received over 12 awards for her writing. One of her most famous play that she wrote was 'Top girls', she wrote a response to the 1979 election of Margaret Thatcher, the first female Prime Minister of Britain. Churchill pioneered writing overlapping dialogue into her scripts. She first explored this technique in her 1978 play Cloud Nine where she wanted to accurately write a couple who constantly quarreled and spoke on top of each other. After writing Cloud Nine, Churchill included her overlapping dialogue technique in Top Girls.

For my assignment, I had to read the whole script of love and information by Caryl Churchill and state my first impressions and opinion of the play. A starting point for my assumptions of the script was looking at the title which was Love and Information, my first impression was that the plot would involve a lot of scenes where different characters find love in different situations, for example, a character could fall in love with a stranger at the bus stop as they eventually meet each other again or we get to see the overall outlook in a relationship where a  couple goes through the stages of being together. This is because when I think about the word ‘love' it’s usually associated with romance, relationship, affection, and fond memories or passion. Whereas, the word 'information' is usually associated with history, identity, and mystery. So, I initially thought that the play would highlight the stages of people falling in love with one another and finding ways how they can meet their soulmates through a different dimension or just in life. Furthermore, the script turns out to be not far from my interpretations. In my opinion, I find this play interesting as it's going to be very challenging to direct this as a production with my group. Since this is my last performance of the year I want to do exceptionally well and strengthen my skill of becoming a director. From reading the script already, I thought of the concepts that I could use for the play and they are alienation, physical theatre, flashback, and fourth wall.
  • Alienation: Alienation is used mainly in plays in the style of Bertolt Brecht. It is used to remind the audience that they are watching a play and it stops emotional attachment to the play.

  • Physical Theatre: Physical theatre is a genre of theatrical performance that encompasses storytelling primarily through physical movement. I thought that it would be interesting if I inserted physical theatre in a few of the scenes or use it as a transition into another scene. This doesn't necessarily mean that I have to use my body to do this I could also use props such as materials like paper or scarfs as each material could symbolise something.

  • Flashback: An interjected scene or point that takes the narrative back in time from the current point Flashback episode. It shows what led up to a particular moment, how it might be resolved or how it may lead to additional challenges. The technique helps to bring out dramatic moments or create the beginnings of a story. What I like about this is that it allows the play to create tension along with having a clear narrative.

  • Fourth Wal: The fourth wall is a conceptual barrier that is described as an imaginary wall that divides the actors from the audience. While the audience can see through this "wall", the actors aren't aware of the audience as they are busy acting on stage investing in their character.

With 'Love and Information' each of the self-contained segments deal with ways we process and reject knowledge and communication. Specifically, it's all about individuals trying to connect and understand one another ultimately through vain. Each scene portrays a situation/phase that we've all been through, for instance, attending a family gathering to watch home videos, debating with friends about the existence of God, or why and how natural disasters happen like earthquakes, tsunamis or volcanoes erupting. Along with falling in love/obsessing over strangers from the internet. These scenarios do apply to real life situations and raise awareness in life, where we've encountered curiosity and struggles which made us gain wisdom and learn from our lessons. Since all of us are living in the same universe, in-depth I thought of the costumes and since this is a kaleidoscope type of play I thought about the entire cast of wearing similar outfits to one another maybe like a white shirt black trousers as each one of us would wear glow in the dark wrists bands in different colours  to symbolise the different souls in the universe.

What makes this play interestingly great is the use of combinations from scenes as they have their own fragmentary nature where numerous emotions take place. Considering that in the scene of Wife, one of the characters seems to have dementia and can’t process who his wife truly is as he refers to her as extinct but the character that plays the wife is right next to him. This makes as the audience feel heartbroken and sad for the couple as the wife tries her best to convince the husband that she is his love by desperately bringing up their fond memories together. In my view, I feel as if this scene would be more powerful if it was played by a duo of the same gender. Overall looking at this scene the dialogue shared by the characters brings out the lack of communication between themselves. On the other hand, there are others scenes that render comedy such as 'The child who did not know fear'. This scene is a monologue where the character(narrator) speaks to an audience or a group of children about a child who didn't know what fear was. The beginning starts off with comedy but towards the middle, there is tension being built up as the narrator goes into a deep description of what encountering fear feels like. Towards the end the monologue ends with "then the lion ate him. The end" this extracts the tension that the audience felt which gets converted back into comedy. Every little snippet of the Love and Information leaves us wondering of what happened before and after each scene as it ends in a Cliff-hanger.

Approaching the play:

I had performed this play about a year ago with Rob. For that particular lesson, I focused on reading scripts and text works. This was ideally for me to develop on news skills such as sight reading, correctly adjusting to my articulation and driving myself into creating a piece without given any direction or context whatsoever.  For that lesson, I paired up with my peer and we looked at dialogue from a play called Love and Information. Specifically, the scene that I had worked on was Secret. Whilst we were reading our scripts we both managed to pick which role that we both were going to play and from reading the scripts through for the first time we began interpreting the characters already. From our interpretations, we decided to base this scenario of two girls who are talking to one another about a secret and one of the friends (played by me) is trying to convince and  find a secret from her best friend who's obviously being sceptical about it and responds after each question in a dismissive tone. We suggested that this scene could take place in a school corridor, whilst we were practicing this we used our imaginations to visualise that there was a lot of people in the school corridor, so when we would deliver our lines of “why can’t you tell me your secret? What is it?” I would have to lower down my voice whilst checking my surroundings as if we were in an actual school corridor. The method that we adapted this from was the Stanislavski dramatic technique called 'four walls' and  'the magic if'. My partner would play her character by having a worried and guilty facial expression at all times. This was shown by her constantly fidgeting with her fingers or biting her lips.

Our performance went well that day because we certainly did use our thoughts to make the assumptions for our scene and presented it in an understandable way so that the audience could have a glimpse of the storyline and had a better understanding of what was happening in the scene. Since we've created this from our interpretation in a limited time, I was thinking ahead of how there also could've been a variety of scenarios placed into the scene of 'Secret' with a different beginning or ending.

Interestingly enough during my free time, I searched online for video about the Love and Information play and I had a look at a few videos and there was one which caught my eye in particular. This was because there were many different actors and actresses interpreting this play through their own way by delivering their line in a certain tone to the choice of setting where they were acting this out. I found it interesting to see that the scene which I had performed was completely contrasted with the actors performing in this video because the plot that I and my partner created was very mysterious and cautious, whereas the actresses in the video had a very friendly and brighter approach to it.

Scenes
that I would like to work in...

-Secret: This scene is a dialogue and it consists of 2 characters. ,Since I’ve done this scene before, I wanted to expand on my previous idea. Therefore, I am willing to work on this scene again and test my ability of creating something more into a better concept as this scene has very little subtext to the it. Looking back at that performance from a year ago, it was created from such a limited amount of time, which resulted in me creating a basic version of the performance. However, this time around I will make sure that I get a unique and well thought interpretation of this scene. If the acting wouldn’t top this, perhaps my production skills can. As for production skills for my script writing project with Papa tango, I used apps to create an insight of the characters life and plot of the story. The video that I made was of the Characters phone and at first it gets unlocked and then you browse through their phone and access their snapchat account. From viewing their snap story, the audience gets a clear backstory of what the characters are like and the plot of the story. And the aim for this project is for me to be confident and think outside of the box even more, so for this scene I will apply this skill to it.

  1. For Secret I want this be set at a cinema, with two teenagers. And for the opening scene I would create a short video that would be displayed on the projector screen at the back of the stage. One of the character is going to receive a message from william(who she names Loser) that says " fine. i will leave her alone... only if you go on a date with me ;)" and the girl is going to respond with "whatever as long as you let her rest". The girl's best friend is sitting right next to her and sees the message and signals for the both of them to step outside and they begin talking about the whole situation. The secret bewteen them both is that the girl that recieves the message is trying to protect her best friend from the womaizer, and in order for her to do so she has to go out with him. The other friend isn't as impressed but shocked and they laugh it off by saying now what?. The ending for this is going to lead to betrayal as the girl is going to end up having feelings for the guy but what will happen? will she still remain bestfriends with her friend that she's trying to protect or would her friend never find out? and that is going to remain a secret.

-Wife: This scene is also a dialogue between 2 characters and in this scene we get to see a couple who have conflict between themselves, as one of the character has dementia and doesn't remember their significant other. The other character tries their best to make their lover know that they are there with and not gone. This heart- wrenching scene is carried on by the constant dialogue of the couples arguing back and fourth until one of the character is fed up and says "you frighten me! who are you?". I would like to work/direct  in this scene as well because I find it interesting to play a role where I'm emotionless and lost along with directing a sad scene which was a moral behind it. Hence, for this scene I have 2 interpretations and I will explain them into full detail underneath.
  1. The scene is going to start off with a man sitting in the middle of the stage with a blank expression on his face whilst the song Stan by Eminem plays in the background for 50seconds with a spotlight on him only. After the music stops playing, the wife enters on stage with a bucket of water and takes out a white towel and begins to wipe the husbands scar which is under his eye. The reason why I decided to use that action specifically , its there to symbolise the plot-twist that's going to show in the end, also the white cloth signifies innocence and purity. As the dialogue is going on between the couples at one point, there's going to be a change of chemistry between them as they begin to share fond memories they get closer to each other physically and share intimate eye contact. Suspiciously, the husband is going to take of the wife's sunglasses and it going to reveal that one of her eye is missing and this is what causes the husband to move back and say "you frighten me! what are you!?" this is going to bring tension because few of the audience is going to realise that the reason why the wife has an eye missing is due to the fact that she gave her eye to her husband in order for him to survive. I got inspiration from a Greek mythology where a son hasn't got a clue who his mother is but there's a woman in his town that people describe  as unfortunate, a witch and evil. Coincidentally, the son comes across this woman one day and as she tries to touch him he pushed her away and she falls to her death. What he didn't realise was that it was his mother all along and the reason why she was totally blind was because she wanted to save him as he was born blind. When I first read the story it really touched my heart but captured my emotions into a jar as i felt really bad for the characters within that story. Whenever i read stories i like to take a message behind each and every single one, in this case in life we are never going to truly appreciate those who go an extra mile for us and for those that sacrifice their life for us as well.
  2. The second interpretation for this scene is that there's going to be two couple who are of the same gender. One of the character is going to get ready for bed and then their lover walks into the room. They sit there in silence for a few moment then the dialogue begins. The main character is going to be vulnerable , fragile and heartbroken, whilst the other character is going to be sturdy and menacing. As they are chatting away trying to connect with one another there are going to be people in black masks submerging from behind the couples and they sit there looking over at them. At one point the sturdy character is going to put lipstick on the fragile character lips and place a mirror in-front of them. This is the cue for the people in mask blow a powdered smoke toward the character and they let out a sinister laugh before running off with the sturdy character. And the fragile character screams and curls into a ball saying " You frighten me, What are you!?". The whole point of this scene is to portray the traumatic experience of being in a relationship, specially for those who have trust issues so they have a fear of falling in love with anyone. This is an overlook of a continuous nightmare each time the main character wants to go to sleep but the demons and memories come to torment them. Interestingly enough I decided to create this storyline to show that in a homosexual relationship there's also abusive relationship.
-The child who did not know fear: This scene is a monologue where the character(narrator) speaks to an audience or a group of children about a child who didn't know what fear was. The beginning starts off with comedy but towards the middle, there is tension being built up as the narrator goes into a deep description of what encountering fear feels like. Towards the end the monologue ends with "then the lion ate him. The end" this extracts the tension that the audience felt which gets converted back into comedy.
  1. The scene could starts off with  the stage being filled with smoke and then the narrator  walks in with a cape and a torch light illuminating his/her face. After the narrator stands in their position the spotlight should be on placed on them only . Later on, there's going to be extras from the cast in mask that will sit around the narrator and don't do anything until the narrator finishes his line and they say "oh!" and just walk off and exit the stage sheepishly.
-Terminal: This scene focuses on a sick patient who has a limited time to live. The atmosphere of this scene is very depressing and sad. The reasons why I wanted act in this scene is because I've always wanted to be in a scene where I have to cry and I usually avoid scenes like this because I find it very awkward to cry and express my sentimental emotions even though its normal but for some reason it's uncomfortable for me. One of my targets, is to approach roles that bring me out of my comfort zone so I'm willing to give this a try.

  1. For terminal I want to play the character of a sick patient and I really want to change the perspective on the character as others would try to make this scene over-dramatic and emotional. The props I want to use for this are black umbrella and they would be positioned on stage in four corners. As the sick patient is talking to her doctor, I would imagine the tone between the two to be very civilised but cheerless. In other words, I want the character to be calm because she doesn't fear death and knew that she always had it coming. The umbrellas in the  corners suggest that no matter in what dimension you are in death is always waiting around for you.
WEEK ONE:

For this week’s lesson as a group, we read through the script and analysed the context of the play. Over the half term, we had to pick the scenes that we wanted to work on, and we decided to split and distribute our roles for the final show. I got the scenes of Lab, Recluse and Earthquake. My partner for these scenes are Harry and Tia. I honestly, felt relieved to see that I got the opportunity to work with Tia again because I was really impressed by her performance over the past months as she progressed bit by bit in each unit by refining on her weaknesses and evolving on her strengths. Another thing that I really admired about her is at how fast she would learn her lines and have a strong sense of dedication when working on her projects. I’ve also worked with Harry before for my Macbeth production, he is also very disciplined when he works on his projects. Overall, we work very well together and hopefully, by engaging and working on our scenes together will help boost each other confidence in acting by giving ourselves targets after each lesson to refine our scenes on top of giving each other feedbacks.

Lab:
In Lab you get introduced to two characters, the enthusiastic scientist (played by me) and the curious assistant (played by Tia). The opening line for this scene is “so you hatch a batch of eggs in the lab” this openly begins to distinguish and show the intentions of my character as it highlights the profession of my role which is a scientist. Scientists tend to conduct a lot of scientific research to advance their knowledge in their area of interest. Perhaps, for this scene my character is working on an experiment, where I get chicks to peck at beads which have been dipped in water while the other is dipped in a solution that tastes bitter. I also try to find out how their brain work by dissecting them.  In the nature of scientists, they tend to have the characteristics of being very observational, curious, logical and creative as they try to find and solve an explanation for everything. Therefore, I initially began thinking of different ways I could portray a scientist. Specifically, for this I had difficulty finding a decent representation of my character as I wanted my role to be lively, irreplaceable and realistic but not stereotypical at the same time. From analysing the tone of my character from the script I decided to give my character the traits of being hard-working, sadistic and repulsive. While going over my lines, I used a variety of tones and accents to get a sense of a new approach to my role. One of my strengths is to do impersonates and accents. I used my voice from a vocal range that emits from high to low and soft to hard. Firstly,  I tried to speak in a soft tone and it  made the character seem shy and reserved  which falls under the category of a stereotypical nerd and I dislike the idea of this one as it didn’t quite fit the image of my character so I decided to for a hard tone and a posh accents meaning that after each sound that ends with a ‘sh, tch, or h’ has a strong emphasis on it and this would make the character seem quite intimidating . For the development of my character I should look at inspirations from cartoons or Tv shows such as Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory or Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty.

However, my character contrast with Tia’s. Her character sounds very sensitive and curious as she continuously asks questions about the whole process of getting chicks to peck at beads. For this specific part of the scene we decided to make Tia a supervisor who’s an animal activist that despises animal cruelty therefore as I’m chatting away about my project she begins to take away my equipment in a sly way, she does this by secretly placing my objects into her bag whilst I’m not paying much attention to her. From this part we get to see the relationship between Tia and mine character as our status changes. In the beginning, I’m very demanding and pompous whilst tia is very calm and reserved but as we continue our dialogue the tone changes between us. The themes presented in this scene are rivalry, science, and power.

From reading the script, I would say that I didn’t find it as difficult but in order for me to understand the plot of the story a lot better I had to read over the lines repeatedly. So, a soon as I go home, I should make this my priority to read and learn my lines at all times. In place of making this into a habit I can think of different ways i can build a character for these scenes. As an actress, it is key to learn your lines during lesson and outside lesson due to not risking constant mistakes during rehearsal.

WEEK TWO:

For this weeks lesson, I managed to work on a different scene with my partners and this time it involved all of us. For recluse, I didn't quite understand what the title meant and what was going on in the scene as there was no direct subtext to it. Therefore, I decided to go online and search for the definition. Recluse is a noun and it means a person who lives a solitary life and tends to avoid other people, in other words it could be be similar to an introvert. From researching the meaning of the title, it gave me a head start for developing the characters within the scene. The main character has obviously got to be very fragile and gloomy as they isolate themselves from the outside world, similarly to Scrooge from Christmas Carol.

I went on my phone to looks for more ideas and inspirations and I came across a video on YouTube. This video gave me a clear idea of what was happening in the scene as the main character played by Harry is in torment as the interrogator played by me is asking questions considering his past. Tia's character is very chill and protective as she tries her best to calm down Harry in-doors by assuring him that everything is going to be fine and that there's no need to panic. This scene is set in a split-scene as I am positioned outside of their home, while Tia and Harry are in-doors. Considering that it's the three of us in this scene ,we converted it into a trialogue. Initially, I thought that it was interesting for us to convert it into a trialogue because each of our lines doesn't always end with a clear ending therefore as we delivering our line we would have to cut through each other in a fast pace and this would create a sense tension as Harry is over in his corner panicking and having a rampage despite Tia trying her best to calm him down keeping her composure. In our acting, it's clearly shown that there's a contrast in-between mine and Harry's character. Harry was more stressed out and cowardly hides away from my character who's evidently pestering him. I decided to make my character intimidating and not seen on stage as it constructs an element that  my character is a spiritual being or a guilty conscious that's trying provoke Harry into confessing his wrong-doings/crime. Throughout this lesson we worked on learning our lines and refining on our tone and characterisations.

 Who Am I?
 What do I want?
 Where Am I?
Why is this happening?
How will I overcome the situation?

 Kadie
  •  Guilty conscious
  • Policeman
  • I want to get answers from Harry
  •  I'm outside of his house
  • I'm inside of his head
  • This is happening because
  • I will overcome this situation by continuing to taunt and pest harry until he give ups acting cowardly and he comes forward.

 Harry
  •  Guilty man
  •  Get rid of the policeman
  • Get rid of the guilty conscious
  •  Inside of his home
  • In a Flat
  • His character got involved in a scandal with his EX-Girlfriend
  •  By facing his fears and finally accepting to come forward and explain his side of the story

 Tia
  •  Harry's Girlfriend
  •  To calm her boyfriend down
  • Inside of her Boyfriends home
  • Because her boyfriend got involved in a scandal
  • By encouring her boyfriend to face his fear
  • By trying to keep him secure

Earthquake:

In Monique's lesson I worked on earthquake with Harry. In Earthquake, I'm playing a single mother who's heavily pregnant and Harry is playing the role of a sensitive teenage son. We’ve decided to set this play in the year 2009 in a family home. The audience gets a glimpse of what the household is like, you see me cleaning around the house whilst harry is invested in watching news; the home is very quite. Our interpretation of this scene is slightly ironic because I play the character of a mother who is pregnant and she is trying her best to keep her composure as she's in pain and the new-born baby is on the way  any time soon, this juxtaposes with the news that harry is looking at on the TV which is about earthquakes destroying countries. And if you think about it keenly earthquakes are unpredictable, so I feel that our interpretation flows very well with one another as both of these situations reflect the causes of mother nature itself.

 Who Am I?
 What do I want?
 Where Am I?
Why Am I in this situation?
How will I overcome this situation?
 Kadie
  •  A single mother that's heavily pregnant
  • I want to clean my house
  • Be at peace since I've recently got a divorce
  • as a parent my responsibility is to keep my family and home secure as being a single parent can be very stressful. because you've got the whole world on your shoulders with a lot of tasks to do.
  • I'm in my living room with my son
  • Because it's my duty as a parent to clean around the house and my son is upset due to personal problems but uses the news as a excuse to latch at me
  • By consoling my son and spend more time with him before the new baby arrives because the new life is going to me my priority.
 Harry
  • A sensitive teenager
  • wants to build a connection his mother
  • Wants to raise awareness for thos suffering from earthquakes
  • In his mother living room, watching the news on televsion
  • Since he's going through a tough time , he lets anything get to him easily
  • Avoiding situations that will upset him perhaps spending more time with his mother

For character development I will always stick with Stanislavski's method of the magic If and given circumstance as it allows me to use my creativity and imagination to build a character. Given circumstances is an important technique of Stanislavski’s where the environmental and situational conditions will influence your interpretations and performance for your particular role. A clear example of this would be my character at the start of Earthquake, as I’m heavily pregnant for my costume I thought of folding a piece of cloth in my shirt so it can show a baby bump. However, behind the context of the plot my character has recently got a divorce with her husband and he has left her to raise two children on her own. In order for her to swallow her pride and fight against her sadness she just hides it by distracting herself by cleaning around the living room. Thinking about the character in deep content, I thought of myself being in a situation like this and how this would affect the way I move and speak; due to my character being exhausted, sad and in pain. I use body language to portray these emotions by sighing constantly. Besides, given circumstances are what Stanislavski believed we should do as actors when we have been given a script and role. Given circumstances are what help you answer the six fundamental questions (who, when, where, why, for what reason and how).

Hot Seating:
With my group we all individually done hot-seating with Monique. Hot Seating is a strategy in which a character or played by you or your partner and then you get interviewed by the audience/ classmate about your character in depth. This activity invites you to narrate a specific event and background of your character which drives them to be in that situation they are in or what they are like as a person. Basically, you get to gain more information of the character that u didn’t know about. For my hot seating I got asked by Monique the different roles that I'm playing and what they are like.

Assignment:
For my assignment, I had to create a presentation on Powerpoint based of the playwright Caryl Churchil and here is my presentation that I will insert down below↓↓

WEEK THREE& FOUR:
For this week, I done rehearsal again and I improved from my previous acting because I took the constrictive criticism and feedbacks into account and developed on them whilst I was at home and during lunch time. My motivation for hard work is that the harder I work, the luckier I get and the harder I work the greater my success would be. This is why I overwork myself and focus on practicing my line daily in place of expecting good intentions and knowledge for next time. This week we've been leading up to our final performance. People started to become a lot more serious this week as we came off our scripts. we rehearsed a full run through the play because we hadn't gone through them as much and we were still a bit un-organised as we don't know our cue on stage and directions. From doing my scenes with my group i managed to get my lines through and now my only focus is to work on my stage presence and getting used to the habit of acting like my character.

Preparation for Show:

  • I missed the technical rehearsal so by the next day I will try to block everything before my actual performance
  • I read through my lines whilst being absent
  • I made posters for the whole class to promote to our final show to the college
  • I printed about sheets to use as props for my lab scene with Tia

This week is the last week for me to practice with my partners and group as a whole production. For the past few weeks, I have been working hard to create my pieces for Lab, Recluse and Earthquake. This time around I would say that the rehearsals have been stressful and tiring as I lost focus and ambition. On the day of the actual performance I brought in costumes that I could change into but it turns out the group decided to not bring in any excessive outfits and the theme for this production was all black only. From observing today’s performance, I noticed that there were a lot of things that went well and some that didn’t go so well. In my opinion, I would agree that the second performance went a lot better than the first one. This is because I forgot most of my lines and it  was very noticeable; also, I adlibbed a lot in one of my scenes due to forgetting my lines as I got very nervous but Tia did greatly by covering up the awkward tensions. Another mistake which I had done was by accidently kicking the chair of stage and at this moment I didn't know what to do so I walked off. To improve on my personal performance,  I believe that I should've learnt my lines a lot sooner so I would had more time to focus on my acting in the play because majority of my feedback from peers and teacher were that I should invest myself into my character more as I have these clear intentions for my role but when it comes to my acting it can't be shown as I read through my script and it prevents me from getting into character physically rather than verbally only. And as a company if we all put more effort into our production roles then maybe we would of understood more about the stage and improved on our performance.
